Asanda Dlangudlangu at the the Food for People facility in Cape Flats
Asanda Dlangudlangu of the newest Food for People (FFP) facility, has opened the kitchen doors to take us on a video tour! The Prem Rawat Foundation’s Food for People program, in partnership with the Prem Ubuntu Foundation, provides thousands of meals per week to children and the elderly in the Cape Flats area of Cape Town, South Africa. In fact, production has even doubled in recent months and reached 139, 212 for May, 2025. The FFP facility continues to work towards TPRF Founder Prem Rawat’s vision of elevating the health and opportunities of Cape Flats residents through nutritious, life-changing meals.

Community Impact and Engagement
The kitchen, located in Epping which borders Cape Flats, produces and distributes nutritious meals to schools and community sites. The meals are created using vegetables sourced from local farms which are then cooked by community members. The meals currently consist of various vegetable soups and are accompanied by fresh bread.
Delivery of the meals are overseen by local staff, including former gang members who have participated in TPRF’s Peace Education Program. This assists with the successful delivery of meals to sites in areas of high crime and food insecurity.

Food for a Brighter Future
The Cape Flats region has long grappled with socioeconomic challenges, including high unemployment rates. The meals provided by the Food for People initiative fosters a sense of ownership and community involvement. Not only does it provide the opportunity for full stomachs, but it also provides the opportunity for prosperity.
Prosperity – as TPRF Founder Prem Rawat emphasizes – is about more than economics; it begins when basic human needs are met. When children have enough to eat, they can stay in school and build brighter futures. When their parents are freed from the daily burden of food insecurity, they gain time to work, earn income, and plan ahead. These ripple effects strengthen families, improve health, reduce crime and help entire communities thrive.
Food for People provides “a ladder” for disadvantaged members of society who seek a way up and out of poverty.

A Model for Sustainable Change
To date, the Food for People program has served over 7.3 million meals.
In addition, TPRF’s approach with the FFP program extends beyond food provision. By integrating educational support and community engagement, the initiative seeks to create a sustainable model for poverty alleviation. The success of the Cape Flats facility adds to the program’s proven track record in other countries, including India, Nepal and Ghana. Through the FFP program millions of meals have been provided and have contributed to improved health, education and economic growth.
