The U.N. has declared today, September 21, as the International Day of Peace—a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. In partnership with this effort, The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF) produced a new video to help raise awareness that peace is possible and it begins with each person.
TPRF is joining with millions of citizens and numerous NGOs worldwide in this observation of a day that provides an opportunity for all humanity to come together, in spirit and in action, to forward the ideals of and conditions for peace. The International Day of Peace was first established by unanimous U.N. resolution in 1981.
Produced by TPRF, the minute-long Peace Starts Here video features narration based on the words of its founder, Prem Rawat, that emphasize that world peace begins with individual peace. Against the backdrop of a world wracked by increasing strife and violence, the suggestion that each person can cultivate peace within is a potent message.
“It is not the world that needs peace; it is people. When people in the world are at peace within, the world will be at peace,” says Prem Rawat.
TPRF is working with partners and supporters to share the “Peace Starts Here” video with as many people as possible. It will be featured on two Peace Day video streams, including Peace Day Global Broadcast, a streaming site that “promotes hope and peace around the world by streaming the best of humanity 24/7.” Among the high profile advocates for peace featured on the site are Pope Francis, former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, President Jimmy Carter, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Peacecast.tv will also show the video to thousands of people amid inspiring messages from a long list of notable grassroots organizations.
Among TPRF’s signature initiatives is the Peace Education Program (PEP), which has been presented in 70 countries worldwide and whose mission dovetails seamlessly with that of the International Day of Peace. An innovative, educational program offered in varied settings including correctional facilities, veterans hospitals, wellness and seniors centers, PEP has touched countless lives from the U.S. to South Africa to Mexico and beyond.
