Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine recently recognized the impact of the Peace Education Program and The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF) with a 2025 Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Community Service. The award acknowledges the program’s growing presence in Baltimore and the Washington, D.C., region and its alignment with Dr. King’s values of service, dignity and empowerment.
The Peace Education Program, developed by The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF), is a series of video-based workshops designed to support personal reflection, wellbeing and inner peace. Offered at no cost, the program creates inclusive spaces where participants can explore their inner resources, such as clarity, appreciation and strength, regardless of background or circumstances.
Since 2022, the program has been actively facilitated throughout Baltimore and neighboring communities, reaching a range of underserved populations. Local peace education courses have been offered to recently incarcerated women, low-income senior citizens and community members facing health and social challenges. In addition, the program has been offered within Johns Hopkins Medicine, serving staff across several departments as well as cancer survivors and their families, demonstrating the program’s relevance in both community and healthcare settings.
The MLK Jr. Award for Community Service recognizes members of the Johns Hopkins community whose work exemplify Dr. King’s legacy through sustained volunteerism and service. This year’s recognition reflects not only individual dedication but also the broader impact of TPRF’s Peace Education Program in fostering resilience, self-awareness and connection across Baltimore.
Award recipients were recognized during Johns Hopkins’ annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration ceremony. In conjunction with the award, Johns Hopkins Medicine presented a $5,000 contribution to TPRF, which has been earmarked for TPRF’s microgrant fund to support expansion of the program in underserved communities.
This recognition shows the meaningful role that peace education plays in strengthening communities and affirms the ongoing partnership between local volunteers, Johns Hopkins Medicine and TPRF in advancing peace, wellbeing and service in Baltimore.
