Giving Peace a Chance in Liverpool

PeacePlay, a voluntary group promoting Prem Rawat’s message through performance arts, launched their first event entitled “Giving Peace a Chance” in Liverpool, the famous birthplace of the Beatles and Britain’s Swinging Sixties.

Ever since 2008, when Liverpool was acclaimed as the City of Culture, the city center has undergone a transformation and now boasts some very high profile cafés, art galleries, and shopping centers. So visitors would be forgiven if they missed one of Liverpool’s “hidden gems,” a bijou café-gallery tucked away in a city-center side street. Café owner and artist, Felicity, kindly opened her doors for an afternoon of music, song, and storytelling dedicated to Peace, and provided a free buffet for the 20 guests and performers.

Said organizer, Phil, “We were delighted to launch this first event in a series of collaborations with local artists and musicians to promote Personal Peace and the message of Prem Rawat.”  Volunteers readily stepped forward to pull together a unique and enjoyable afternoon, donating their talents and time completely free of charge.

The event began with a jazz flute and acoustic guitar improvisation, followed by spirited performances of Rap, Acapella singing, and Celtic harp. Interspersed amongst the performances were short video screenings, including the Food for People Story to raise awareness of the work of The Prem Rawat Foundation.

A poignant moment for all was joining in with 85-year old Stanley’s rendition of a World War II soldier’s ballad. The event finished with an interactive storytelling piece. “Stone Soup,” a traditional folk-tale about war, trust, and co-operation prompted lively conversations amongst the café-goers about working together for Peace.

“The PeacePlay group is now working on its next events in Liverpool and in Wales,” said Phil. “We are very excited about the potential of performance arts as a way of conveying Prem’s message.”
