By the numbers: TPRF provides supplies to more than 17,000 people

As of June 15, TPRF has provided relief supplies to more than 17,000 earthquake victims in Nepal. The aid effort has expanded to include people in 11 of the most severely impacted districts, including remote areas near the epicenter of the devastating April 25 quake.

Working with TPRF’s long-term partner, Premsagar Foundation Nepal, so far villagers have received:

• 1,824 food packets (rice, daal, salt, sugar, oil)

• 141 sets of cooking utensils, stoves

• 1,273 bundles of corrugated galvanized iron (CGI) roofing sheets

• 1,052 tarps

• 923 sleeping mats

• 200 blankets

• 200 mosquito nets

In addition, thousands of people have received meals, shelter, and medical care at the Food for People (FFP) facility in Tasarpu and the eight AGPS centers around the country.

TPRF also funded the distribution of metal roofing sheets to four damaged schools, allowing them to build temporary classrooms and reopen. Several schools far from the FFP facility have also requested ongoing food aid for students, and volunteers are exploring the options for making that happen. Many villagers are scared that their food supplies will dwindle during the monsoon season, when distribution can be particularly challenging.

Other plans being considered include:

• Repairing damaged water distribution systems, starting in Tasarpu. The main source of water for the FFP facility and neighboring villages was initially repaired after the earthquake, but has now dried up. Volunteers are working to identify a long-term solution.

• Finding ways to provide ongoing support and materials to villagers who are seeking to build shelters and homes.

•  Providing 251 households in Tasarpu with low cost-toilets to help maintain health and prevent disease outbreaks.
