Excerpts from Prem Rawat's address in Delhi, India, at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on July 29, 2006
Translated from Hindi.
There is a difference between knowing and recognizing. I can read about what a person has done in his life, I can know all about him, but until I have had a chance to look at him, I won’t be able to recognize him. A lot of times at the airport, people who go to meet someone know their name, but they don’t recognize them. So, they hold up a sign with the person’s name on it and show it to everyone who comes by. When I arrive at the airport, the people who come to meet me don’t have to hold up a sign saying “Prem Rawat.” They see me from far away and recognize me.
What do you know about yourself and what don’t you recognize about yourself? Within this heart is everything precious. Within this heart is a precious stone, and within this heart is a person who recognizes that precious stone.
People know, but they don’t recognize. They look at each other’s faces, but do they recognize the other human being? In the human being, all the labels are left behind. What is the color of the skin? That is left behind. Who’s educated? That is left behind. Who’s rich, who’s poor. When we look at a man, what do we say? “He’s young; he’s old. He’s a good dresser” or “He’s a beggar.” These are the things that are left behind. Have you looked into each other’s eyes? Have you seen that the God who’s within you is within the other person as well?
Everything else is just thoughts, theory. We need true experience. Until human beings have that true experience, they won’t recognize each other. In every human being, there is a lamp. Everyone feels that the lamp within them should be lit. There is no human being who does not want peace in their life. But people are caught up in descriptions and definitions and are unable to have the real experience of that peace.
Look for that experience. I don’t say just come to me. Look for it. Wherever you find it, it’s good because it’s about peace. And you should have peace in your life. If you can’t find it, then come to me. I offer the mirror of Knowledge in which you can see your true reflection. You can experience the peace that is within you and fulfill your life. Within you is both that precious gem and the person who will recognize it.
