Are tribal lands now being populated by outsiders?
The tribal people along main communication arteries
are being squeezed out of their land, and the
opening up of previously inaccessible tribal areas has accelerated
this process. Most of the time, when tribal people
have encountered large corporate mining and irrigation
projects, they have suffered greatly. The rapid
changes have created crises that threaten
their social fabric. Displacement has spelled
for them disorganization and destitution, since
they do not have the skills to create another
way of life for themselves.
